Seems like we spend most of our time wishing our lives away.
By the end of May we could hardly stand the heat in La Paz. The days were starting to reach 100-101 and the window liners had been put back in the ports to keep the temperature down inside the boat. Couldn’t wait for the sun to start setting just so we could sit out on the deck and attempt to catch a cool breeze. By the first week in June we were planning on storing the boat for hurricane season and heading back to the states.
We had been in Mexico for 11 months and had no idea what we were missing. Television in the U.S. is mentally degrading not only the commercials but the programs as well. The people are more self absorbed and less willing to speak in passing. We discovered that we had been acclimated to La Paz. Life in Mexico had taught us to slow down……. and focus on keeping it simple.
We have been back in the states for two months now and are looking forward to returning to Mexico and our home on the boat. As soon as hurricane season is over and things start to cool off we will be returning back to La Paz to pick up where we left off. Are we there yet?

It has been so long since I caught up with where you are. Having to haul out must have been rather hard –leaving your home on the boat. You are homesick! I hope in the meanwhile you’ve found something creative to do. I’m sure catching up with friends and family must be nice after almost a year. It’s always great to see a post from you; sorry I’ve been out of the loop. And thanks for your nice comments on FB about our son’s wedding. It was a magical moment and very emotional.

Hi Christine! Yes it was hard leaving the boat. In the meantime we have bought some property in Florida for our art studio and are working to fix it up. After a year of no rain in Baja, Florida is making up for it in just a few months. Hope you are enjoying your summer and are getting out in the canoe.

We are about to experience the same thing after being in Thailand for 5 months. In some ways I’m looking forward to going back- mostly for the foods I’d grown so accustomed to in the states and can’t get here in Thailand. I’m wondering if I’ll feel the same way you do. We’ll only be there for three months and already I’m dreaming of coming back. to Asia. This is an interesting post Wenchhandle.

Familar foods back in the states was something I also looked forward to. What we miss the most is what feels like the innocense of life/lifestyle. It is so different in the states. Going from dirt in Baja to concrete and asphalt. We went from a culture that accepts life for what it is to a culture that can’t get enough of anything.
Let us know when you get back to the states. Hope you are feeling better.
